The Friends of the Sangamon Valley offers a variety of volunteer opportunities and the training to do the job right.
Educational workshops are offered on the safety, operation, and maintenance of chain saws and other power tools; certification for applying herbicides on public lands; and controlled burning. The herbicide workshop is held annually; others may occur annually or as needed.
Experienced Friends volunteers are always willing to share their knowledge and experience with people new to stewardship activities.
The Friends also battle invasive species. These videos were created in partnership with The State Journal-Register and introduce two serious invaders of Illinois natural areas.
Invasive Species: Bush honeysuckle
Invasive Species: Garlic mustard
